Summary
We’re a funding circle looking to give microgrants to promising individuals (and very small organisations) focused on farm animal advocacy. The microgrants will be around £500 to £2500 ($670 to $3300). We’re more likely to fund smaller requests, but we’ll consider exceptional opportunities up to £5000 ($6700). Applicants should expect to hear back from us by the end of March.
In total, we expect to give between £15,000 ($20,000) and £43,000 ($59,000).[1]
Please complete our Request for Proposals here by 1 March 2026 (end of day, anywhere in the world).
What will we fund?
We’re excited about projects to help the farm animal advocacy movement in a variety of ways. Primarily, we are looking to support individuals who want to devote their career to improving the lives of farmed animals (e.g., upskilling current advocates, or helping people transition into movement work). We’re also interested in small-scale opportunities that can directly improve the lives of animals or provide information value (e.g., an intervention pilot).
Our funding circle will consider projects based anywhere in the world. We would especially like to support work in developing countries where industrial animal farming is an emerging problem.
In general, our funding circle is looking for projects that are too small for the major grantmakers in the space, and is taking a hits-based portfolio approach. Examples of projects we could see ourselves supporting include:
- ~£500 for protest materials, or undercover investigations equipment
- ~£1,000 to to run an animal advocacy careers day
- ~£1,500 to translate animal advocacy texts into a widely-spoken, neglected language
- ~£2,000 to support a campaign to improve the lives of farmed animals
- ~£2,500 stipend to support an advocate taking an unpaid government internship, to set them up for an impactful policy career.
You can see a longer list of potential projects we will fund below.
We won’t be funding travel expenses for conferences that provide their own travel grants, such as AVA or Effective Altruism Global (but we’ll consider requests to fund other travel expenses).
Who is eligible?
Anybody, anywhere in the world.[2]
We invite both individuals and small organisations to apply. We have a preference to support individuals, especially for projects that are ineligible or too small for major grantmakers.
For organisations, you must have a budget of less than $50,000/year to apply. If your organisation is larger than this, we recommend applying to other funds such as the EA Animal Welfare Fund or ACE Movement Grants.
Who is the funding circle?
The funding comes from me (Ben) and ~20 friends and colleagues in the effective animal advocacy movement. A few of us will review applications and suggest the best opportunities to the funding circle, who will make individual decisions about who to support with their personal donations.
Where can I apply?
Please complete our RFP here by 1 March 2026 (end of day, anywhere in the world). This shouldn’t take more than two hours to complete.
Please do not use AI to write your application. It’s okay to brainstorm with AI tools, but your application should be your ideas written in your own words. If English is not your first language, it’s okay to write in your language then use translation software.
